It was February 11, 2004. I was sitting in my loft in Downtown Los Angeles and someone told me that gay people started to marry in San Francisco. Having no money at the time, I called my friends and asked them to donate. After I raised $800, my assistant Jessica and I jumped in my truck and headed North. We started shooting "Spouses For Life" on February 14, 2004. We stayed for 5 days. Those 5 days changed my life forever.
As you watch gay couples marry on the steps of City Hall in San Francisco, you will see the emotional journey that unfolds for each family. Watch as a city comes together and fights for the equal rights of its own citizens. You just have to watch and pass it on.
Thank you citizens of San Francisco. Your courage changed every gay and lesbian life on the planet!
